All it took was one person in our office to spark a riot. About a year ago a new member of staff arrived at her first day of work on a bicycle. By no means a revolutionary concept, but somehow it struck a chord amongst the Incu office and now on any particular day our workspace is filled with upwards of 5 bikes at any one time. It seems the trend for velocipedes is by no means limited to our small pocket of Surry Hills however, with the release of official numbers this week from New Yorks Department of Transportation showing a 35% increase in commuter cycling for 2008. I’m sure there are many reasons for this increase; higher fuel costs, greater awareness of the environment, or to simply look freaking cool, but what ever your reason it’s clear that the humble bicycle is enjoying a much deserved comeback. Hopefully a trend that will only gain momentum in years to come.
