TOKYO Trinity

Fresh off the plane from the land of raw fish and electronic toilets, I’d like to share with the Incu network three particularly amazing stores that are well worth visiting if traveling to Tokyo anytime soon.

CÏBONE (Aoyama) This design store was found without the help of my Superfuture guide. Every object in here – from the egg holders to the architecture books – seemed aesthetically pleasing and clever. I walked out the door with a skeleton Jenga set.

VISVIM (Harajuku) The philosophy behind Visvim is proof that a clothing brand can instill genuine meaning into its products. This was highlighted by the hard-back Visvim book my friend received simply for trying on a pair of pants, titled ‘Dissertation on The Authenticity of Utility’ (by founder Hiroki Nakamura).

OPENING CEREMONY (Shibuya) The Tokyo incarnation of the New York-based Opening Ceremony is a six level wonderland of crazily cool stuff, like stairs to nowhere, horse heads, and an entirely blue office cubicle. The Pendleton collaboration pieces were particularly cool, but the real highlight is the café downstairs (Pot Luck) and its affable staff.
